A slow afternoon in Aughnacliffe: a walk, then a sauna.
You do not need a packed itinerary to make an afternoon feel different. Around Aughnacliffe in north Longford, a short walk and a booked sauna session can be enough.
Start with Leebeen Park, where a boardwalk follows Lough Leebeen. If you want another walk, look at the nearby Aughnacliffe Waterfall Trail. Then make time for Firecracker’s wood-fired sauna at the park.

Book the sauna first
Pick a suitable session and leave space around it. A route on a map is not a reserved booking, and an opening day does not mean the time you want is available. Let the rest of the afternoon fit around your session rather than racing between stops.
A social session lets you book places in a shared visit. Private hire is for your own group. Check the calendar for the current product, price and available time, and ask Enda if you are unsure which option suits your numbers.
Start with Leebeen Park
Visit Longford lists a 1.5 km loop with a boardwalk beside Lough Leebeen. It is a short walk to build an afternoon around, rather than a hike that needs the whole day. There are picnic benches where you can pause by the water.
Check the current trail information and signs when you arrive. Choose footwear for the weather and surface, and ask about access if that affects your visit. An easy trail grade does not tell you whether a particular section is open or suits your needs.
Give yourself time to stop. The useful thing about choosing a short route is that there is room to look around, sit for a while or return early. You do not need to turn the distance into a target.
The waterfall is another option
The Aughnacliffe Waterfall Trail leads to Pulliness waterfall. Visit Longford describes a 1.4 km loop and a 430 m linear option. These are separate route choices, so check the official information before deciding which to take.
If your sauna session is approaching, leave the waterfall for another visit. There is no need to squeeze every stop into the same afternoon or assume that the two walks form one continuous route.
Check Visit Longford’s park and waterfall trail information.
Come back to Firecracker
Find us at Leebeen Park, Dunbeggan, Aughnacliffe, Co. Longford, N39 WK74. Pack swimwear, drinking water, sandals or flip flops and two towels: one for the bench and one for drying. Bring a robe or warm clothes for afterwards and a bag for damp kit.
There are three changing rooms and no toilets on site. Changing time is part of your booking, so leave enough room within the slot. Our sauna sessions are for visitors aged 18 and over.
Read the visitor questions before setting off. If you need a particular arrangement for access or changing, describe it to Enda before booking.
Leave the day some room
Check the weather, your route and your booking before you leave. Pack walking gear separately from the sauna kit so you are not working it out after the walk. Leave time for changing and the journey home.
Being beside the lake does not mean that a dip is required or suitable in every condition. Ask the host about the current arrangements if you are considering the water, and read the RNLI’s cold-water dipping guidance.
If you want to add coffee or food, check the business’s current opening hours. Keep it simple: a walk, a booked session and enough room between them to enjoy both. Another route left to try gives you a reason to come back.
